FM Harold Wanyama leads the EA Open Chess Tournament after defeating Ben Nguku in round two and CM Ben Magana in round three. In round five, he will face Limbikani Chitundu.
On the second board, CM Ben Magana will face Brian Irungu, which promises to be an exciting encounter. Brian Irungu will be seeking revenge after his loss to CM Ben Magana at the recently concluded Kenya Open.
In their round three encounter, Anthony Kionga, one of Kenya’s most active arbiters, sensationally defeated veteran CM John Mukabi in round three but lost to Martin Kagiri in round four. Anthony Kionga now has two points and will face fellow arbiter Ronald Bolo.
Joseph Maigua leads the event with 3.5 points from four rounds and will face Martin Kagiri in round five.
Ann Kungu will, in round 5, get a chance to grab the overall leading spot if she can defeat Victor Githui. She currently has 3.5 points and is tied with Christian Nderi and Zadock Nyakundi in the first position.
