Teimour Radjabov – Richard Rapport, R6 Candidates Chess 2022
With two points and tie for the bottom of the table, Teimour Radjabov is one of the players with the lowest chances to win the event after 6 played rounds. But it could all be changed with two significant victories. Radjabov meets with Richard Rapport today, and both players are looking for a victory that would bring them closer to the sole leader. Radjabov and Rapport played the last otb game last year at the Paris Grand Chess Tour event. It was a blitz game that ended in favor of Richard Rapport who won with white pieces.

The newcomer of the Candidates Chess Tournament and the youngest participant of the event Alireza Firouzja meets against Fabiano Caruana who experienced the Candidates’ energy several times. They’ve already met a month ago at the Superbet Chess Classic in Bucharest, but Caruana had whites and the game ended in a draw.

Hikaru Nakamura – Ding Liren, R6 Candidates Chess 2022
Hikaru Nakamura seems unhappy with the 2022 Candidates Chess Tournament, even though he emphasized he is satisfied with the current result. He missed winning chances against Nepomniachtchi yesterday describing the game with three words: “I am disgusted”. Ding Liren on the other hand didn’t speak a lot about his expectations, but he obviously struggles to get back in his best shape after a long chess break caused by covid19 pandemic. The players had their last otb encounter at Tata Steel India (Blitz) 2019 in Kolkata when the game ended in a draw after more than 80 moves.

Ian Nepomniachtchi will for sure give his best to get to the second free day as the sole lead of the 2022 Candidates Chess. Jan-Krzysztof Duda will be there to oppose him and fight for the best score to be in the game for the top. Last time the players met at the over-the-board tournament was 6 months ago at World Rapid Chess Championship 2021 in Warsaw, with Nepomniachtchi delivering a victory with whites.
