While the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 goes slowly towards an end, all the eyes are on the reigning World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen who is considering his retirement from the World Chess Championship Matches. In one of the latest interviews, Magnus Carlsen explained he is not closer to playing another World Championship Match than he was before, but he is still not 100% certain about the decision. “I wanted to quit while on top, and it’s clearly what’s most likely to happen” said Carlsen to the Norwegian newspaper VG two months ago.
Some months earlier, World Chess Champion said in a blog post for his law firm sponsors Simonsen Vogt Wiig that he will probably not play another match for the title unless it’s against a representative of the next generation. The statement promoted 19-year-old Alireza Firouzja as the Candidates favorite. Considering the Candidates 2022 rankings after 10 played rounds, it’s clear that Firouzja doesn’t have a mathematical chance to win the event, and Ian Nepomniachtchi will probably be the one to challenge the World Champion.
Magnus Carlsen yesterday posted two interesting tweets that were interpreted in many different ways. Some were saying that Magnus obviously confirmed he won’t play the World Championship Match, while the others seem to be ready to bet their car that Carlsen will play Nepo in the end. “Can’t let you do that buddy, I’m an ambassador for responsible gambling” answered Magnus while everyone waits for his official announcement.

Now that Alireza has gone back to his bullet roots, I'm sure he'll be inspired and win tomorrow!

Reactions to Magnus’s posts:
Magnus Fr said “I ain’t playin this Nepo Mf again” 😭😭😭😭
Please play Nepo again. For us all
You are and remain the undisputed champ for many years to come! Regardless if"YOU" decide to take up another challenger. You showed many times that if you would accept its just for show and money. You are the best player ever and the other players know that as well
Magnus wants Hikaru as his challenger.
If Alireza wins tomorrow and Nepo collapses against Hikaru.. Then Hikaru has a chance
MAGNUS WHAT DOES THIS MEAN PLEASE TELL US UR PLAYING IF NEPO WINS
