2022 African Youth Chess Championship

The 2022 African Youth Chess Championship got underway over the weekend after facing severe logistical challenges in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. The imposing Mika Convention Centre, about 10 km from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, is the event venue.
The event has an impressive turnout of over 240 participants from 15 African federations, including Kenya.
Egypt has sent a powerful squad with CM Kamal Mohamed Hany, rated 2026, and FM Samir David George, rated 1819, playing in the U18 Open section. GM Adly Ahmed, one of Egypt’s top players, is the team coach.
Robert Mcligeyo Oluka is Kenya’s top junior player in the event. He is ranked 4th in the U18 section and will be representing Kenya at the forthcoming 2022 Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India.
