Hans Niemann passionately responded to the recent speculations made about him following Carlsen’s withdrawal from the Sinquefield Cup. In the round 5 post-game interview of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, Niemann confessed he was cheating on chess.com and said it was the biggest mistake in his life. Niemann’s emotional confession: I cheated in random games on chess.com and this was the biggest mistake in my life

The story so far: Magnus Carlsen withdrew from the Sinquefield Cup 2022 without detailed explanations. Possible reasons of Magnus Carlsen’s withdrawal can be found here. Sinquefield Cup’s players and organizers reacted to Carlsen’s decision with Fabiano Caruana tweeting that he can’t wait to see the Hans effect on The Magnus Effect. Hans Niemann was shocked by Carlsen’s withdrawal and explained that he couldn’t even focus on his fourth round game against Firouzja. In the R4 post-game interview, Hans added: At least I got to beat Magnus Carlsen before he left. Magnus Carlsen’s results were annulled after his withdrawal.
Reactions to Niemann’s interview:
Really hoping for @MagnusCarlsen, @chesscom, and @GMHikaru to make a public apology to Hans. Last real chance they have to earn any kind of respect back for their behaviour regarding the accusations. Justice for @HansMokeNiemann !!
This is one of the most extraordinary interviews I have ever seen in all my years in chess. Make that all my years period! This young man is now the most riveting story in chess. Let’s hope level heads prevail. https://t.co/06vT0XGKPH
Respect for Hans Niemann for telling his truth and owning up to his pst mistakes. He definitely worked hard to prove himself. Worth watching the whole interview. https://t.co/KzlevYPdsI
Just watched the Hans interview — the ball is now in Magnus’s court. If he think Hans cheated, now is the time to come out and say it. Hans is innocent until someone can prove otherwise
#FreeHans ✊
As Tartakower used to say, it's better to sacrifice someone else's chess career.
Hikaru is incredibly toxic, but it's Magnus that has caused all this. He made the insinuation, knowing full well what would happen (and he still stays quiet on the matter even now). Hikaru is just the lapdog. #chesspunks
what if Magnus has a really embarrassing illness and what if we speculated on which illness
After watching Hans last interview I feel so moved and love him even more. I truly hope that for the first time chess doesn't speak for itself but for Hans and he shuts up everyone by his great performances and success in the future. Rooting for him on his way to the top. https://t.co/AUc6pTqNVi
