US Chess Championship 2022

The US Chess Championship 2022 is going to take place October 4-14 in the Saint Louis Chess Club. It will feature 14 of the strongest US chess players. The event boasts a prize fund of 250 000$ with additional $64,000 “Fischer Bonus Prize” available if a player finishes with a perfect score. The current US Chess Champion is Wesley So and he is going to defend his title in 2022.

The event follows a series of exciting tournaments which started with the American Chess Cup 2022 (Participants / American Cup 2022 games / Fabiano Caruana wins the American Cup 2022), continued with the 2022 U.S. Junior, U.S. Girls Junior and U.S. Senior Chess Championships, and culminated with the Saint Louis rapid and blitz 2022, the Sinquefield Cup (Replay games / Alireza Firouzja wins Sinquefield Cup 2022), and the 9LX Champions Showdown.

Follow the live games from the US Championship 2022 daily on Chessdom.com

The time control of the US Chess Championship 2022 is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds (increment) per move starting from move one. A “no draw” rule will be in effect throughout the Event, including any playoff games.  Player may not mutually agree to a draw. In the event of a claim for a draw under Article 9.2 of the FIDE Laws of Chess (three-fold repetition) or under Article 9.3 of the Laws (50 move rule), one of the Event Arbiters must be asked by the players to verify the claim. The following tie-breaks will be used for the purposes of the crosstable and any special prizes or trophies: 1. Direct Encounter, 2. Most Blacks, 3. Koya System, 4. Sonneborn Berger, 5. Won Games. If two or more Players are tied for first, a playoff shall be held to determine final standings among all tied players. An Armageddon Game is defined as follows: White shall start with 5 minutes and black shall start with 4 minutes. A 2-second increment shall be added starting with move 61. Black shall be declared the winner if the game ends in a draw.
