Hans Niemann drew against Leinier Dominguez in the fifth round of the US Chess Championship. Hans seemed to be in trouble after the opening, but managed to convert the position into a very drawish endgame with an exchange down (Replay the game here). Niemann joined the live studio of the US Chess Championship for the post-game interview and analyzed his game against Leinier, concluding that he needs to work more on Berlin.
Commenting on the tough loss he suffered against Fabiano Caruana yesterday, he said: “I think that Fabiano played very well. So I was done nothing to be ashamed of. It is a very long event – a 13-game marathon, and one loss against Fabiano is not the worst thing in the world. The fact that there is a rest day now is giving me relief“. Hans didn’t want to share his daily routine and explained that he doesn’t want to give information to stalkers and paparazzi about where he spends his time in Saint Louis. He added that he had an interesting situation at the place he visits during the tournament: “I was making an order and they knew my order and the guy said to me, this order speaks for itself!”.
