The 88th edition of the Brazilian Chess Championship took place from15-23 December 2022 in Boa Viagem, Recife, concurrently with the Brazilian Women’s Chess Championship 2022. The Open Championship was played in 11 rounds swiss system, and Women’s event was played in 9 rounds swiss system. The time control was 90 minutes for the whole game plus 30 seconds of increment per each move, starting from the move one.
GM Alexandr Fier won the 88th Brazilian Chess Championship as he scored 9.5/11 points to be the sole Winner of the event. GM Yago De Moura Santiago and IM Roberto Junio Brito Molina trailed by half a point tying for second place with 9 points, each. Tiebreak criteria favored Santiago who claimed silver and Molina won bronze.
FM Juliana Sayumi Terao dominated the Women’s Championship scoring perfect 9/9 points to clinch the title. She was two points ahead of NM Ellen Larissa Bail who won silver with 7 points, while WIM Kathie Goulart Librelato came third with 6.5 points. Scroll down for final rankings of both events
