The African Chess Confederation (ACC) has announced Malawi as the host nation of the 2023 Zone 4.5 Open Chess Championship.
The week-long tournament will attract the best chess players from the Zone 4.5 federations. And dates of the tournament have been tentatively set from the 24-27th of August 2023. The competition will be played in open and ladies categories.
Zone 4.5 is made ten countries namely South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia and Eswatini.
Angola’s Luzia Pires and Calvin Klaasen of South Africa won the previous edition of the championship in Maseru, Lesotho last year.
The President of Chess Association of Malawi, Susan Namangale told us that they are committed to ensuring that the tournament will be a success and they have been working closely with all stakeholders to ensure that the tournament runs smoothly.
She also expressed her gratitude to the African Chess Confederation for entrusting them with the hosting rights and promised that the zonal competition will be exciting and competitive.
