The Zimbabwe Chess Federation recently hosted the World Cup Qualifiers and IM Rodwell Makoto and Linda Shaba were crowned as the champions.
Linda Shaba still basking in glory following her qualification to the World Amateur Chess Championship was on top of her game accumulating three points in the process qualifying for the Chess World Cup.
She defeated Tatenda Mellisa Zengeni twice and forced two draws against Christine Makwena.
In the men’s section, IM Rodwell Makoto amassed five points which included famous victories against Spencer Masango and Jemusse Zhemba.
Makoto and Shaba will represent Zimbabwe at the World Chess Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan from the 7th– the 30 April. Botswana Chess Federation will kick start their qualifiers yesterday at the University of Botswana with IM Providence Oatlhotse, FM Gomolemo Rongwane, Alfa Kgotlane and Bojosi Sabure, Keletshabile Monnaatsheko battling for the single spot to qualify for the World Chess Championship
