Equatorial Guinea hosted the Zone 4.3 African Regional Individual Chess Championship on the 18th-27th of January 2023 in Malabo.
Chess players from Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principle took part in the tournament which was played in nine rounds using the Swiss system.
Complete Dominance as WCM Magne Kouokam Sylviane wins gold

Cameroon’s Magne Sylviane showed class and dominance winning all games to claim the women’s championship title in style.
The tournament’s second-seeded player Cinthia Daniela Ndong of Equatorial Guinea won the silver medal with eight points suffering only one defeat to the champion Sylviane.
Her counterpart Louise Dumonten settled for the bronze medal as the host dominated the podium.
Pereira Sergio wins the open championship title which is the highest title ever won by a Sao Tome chess player

Pereira Sergio became the first chess player from Sao Tome to win the Zone 4.3 Individual open championship title. Sergio won the open section with 8 points recording one defeat to CM Bongo Barthelemy of Gabon.
IM Amba Claude of Cameroon accumulated seven points to emerge as the silver medal winner. Claude drew twice with Abdelaziz Badjoiri and AFM Ntamatungiro Wilfried and lost one game to Sergio.
Burundi’s AFM Ntamatungiro Wilfried won the bronze medal amassing 6.5 points.
Mayra Candida Okomo Pereira makes tournament history

8-year-old Mayra Candida Okomo Pereira was the youngest player in the tournament. The Equatorial Guinea teenager finished the tournament in 11th position with 1 point which was a great achievement for a player of her age.
