Algeria’s WIM Lina Nassr emerged as the winner of the women’s section at the Arab Chess Championship 2023 whilst GM Abdelrahman Hesham of Egypt settled a silver medal in the open section on Saturday 05 March 2023 in Khartoum, Sudan.
The second-seeded player scored 7.5/9 to clinch the women’s section championship title ahead of the fourth-seed WFM Manar Khalil who managed 7/9. Rising chess star Ruba Al-Qudah from Jordan clinched a well-earned bronze medal.
Championship top-seeded player WIM Sabrina Latreche had to settle for a 4th place finish with six points.
In the open section, the tiebreaker favoured Egypt’s GM Abdelrahman Hesham to clinch the silver medal whilst GM Aziz Husain of Qatar settled for a bronze medal. Sudan’s CM Abuzied Ahmed and IM Mohsen Elgabry of Egypt finished 4th and 5th respectively.
