The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 takes place from July 28th to August 10th in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The hosting country of the event was changed twice before India took the role of the Olympiad host for the first time ever. (the developing story can be found here)
The event is played in Open and Women’s sections, in 11 rounds, swiss system, with time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1. The teams of each section will be composed of four players + one reserve player, the team captain, and the team coach. With 187 teams registered in Men’s competition and 162 teams registered in the Women’s competition, the 2022 Chennai Olympiad breaks the participation record previously set in Batumi, 2018.
Teams of India (with an average rating of 2486), Ukraine (with an average rating of 2478), and Georgia (with an average rating of 2475) are the top seeds of the women’s section. See the participants lists here / R1 Team pairings / R1 Board pairings
