African Chess Confederation- Confédération Africaine des Echecs (ACC)
The African Chess Confederation- Confédération Africaine des Echecs (ACC) formerly known as the Africa Chess Union is the governing board of African chess.
The African Chess Federation was formally established on October 24, 1976, in Tripoli, with Mr.Mohamed Shukry Shaheen chairing the meeting.
Libya laid the groundwork for the federation’s establishment,bringing 12 African leaders under the leadership of Mohamed Shukri Shaheen, who served as the first President from 1976-1986.
Subsequently, Dr Sylvan Ebigwei from Nigeria took over as President from 1986-1990.
Additionally, Mr Belkadi Ridha, a Tunisian held the position of International Vice President of the International Chess Federation, responsible for African affairs during the 1980s.
To date, the African Chess Confederation- Confédération Africaine des Echecs (ACC) has a membership of 50 Member Associations.
