The 79th LOTTO Polish Championship and the 74th Polish Women’s Chess Championship simultaneously take place in Kruszwica, from 9-17 May 2022.
The Open section event was played as a 16 players knockout tournament, with Radoslaw Wojtaszek and Kacper Piorun proceeding to the finals. The final match of two games started with a quick draw after only 16 moves but the second game was decisive with Radoslaw Wojtaszek clinching a victory with White pieces. With the final result of 1.5-0.5, Wojtaszek claimed the 5th title of Polish Chess Champion in his career (2005, 2014, 2016, 2021, 2022). Replay the games from the final here

WFM Michalina Rudzinska won the Women’s Championship with a round to spare. She scored 6.5/8 points, winning against all the favorites: Klaudia Kulon, Jolanta Zawadzka, Joanna Majdan, Karina Cyfka... 20-year-old Rudzinska was the lowest rated player in the field, making a huge surprise to be ahead of the six time Polish Women Champion Monika Socko and 4 times Women Champion Jolanta Zawadzka.
