The Prague Chess Festival 2022 will take place 7-17 June. It will consist of a Masters 10 player round robin event, Challengers and Futures tournaments. Live: Prague Chess 2022 Masters and Prague Chess 2022 Challengers
The opening ceremony of the 4th year of the Prague International Chess Festival is going to be held in a Prague four-star Hotel Don Giovanni on Tuesday, 7th June at 18 o’clock. A day later at 15 o’clock, the first rounds of closed tournaments shall begin, and the festival ends on 17th June with the award ceremony. Entry is free for all visitors! Important chess personas are going to attend the opening ceremony of the tournaments, e. g. Martin Petr, the chairman of the Czech Republic Chess Federation, Roman Mužík, the president of the 1st Novoborský Chess Club, Petr Boleslav, the festival director, partners’ representatives, and attendants of the closed tournaments Masters, Challengers, and Futures. The players shall draw their color and we shall briefly commemorate past years.
During the festival, spectators can watch the games on a giant LCD video wall in the main playing hall, and the main commentators of live streams are going to be the German International Master Elisabeth Paehtz and the English International Master Lawrence Trent.
The most prestigious tournament Masters gives you Vidit Gujrathi from India, Sam Shankland from the USA, Quang Liem Le from Vietnam, Pentala Harikrishna from India, Francisco Vallejo Pons from Spain, Parham Maghsoodloo from Iran, David Antón Guijarro from Spain, Salem Saleh from the UAE and Czech David Navara and Thai Dai Van Nguyen. After a year break, the Challengers tournament shall be also held. Its winner can participate in the Masters in the next year. Many shall fight for advancing, e. g. current Dutch champion Max Warmerdam and American junior champion Hans Niemann.
The Futures tournament shall be attended e. g. by Pawel Sowinski from Poland, Peter Balint from Austria, and several Czech players led by an 11-year-old prodigy Jiří Bouška and Timofey Bokhnak. Their ambassador is going to be the famous coach of chess stars, the Dutch GM of Bosnian origin Ivan Sokolov.
The visitors can also attend one of many side events that start on 11th June by the Children Day and series of lectures, on 12th June we shall host the film festival in Prague cinema Aero, there will also be the simultaneous exhibition of Ivan Sokolov and Vlastimil Hort is going to introduce his new book Mé šachové historky (My Chess Stories). On 13th June, Sokolov shall have a coaching lesson in the Hotel Don Giovanni along with the autographing session. For 15th June we have planned a lecture Šachy do škol (Chess for Schools).
ELIZABETH PAEHTZ AND LAWRENCE TRENT AS MAIN COMMENTATORS
Prague International Chess Festival is starting on Wednesday, 8th June at 3.00 p.m. with the first rounds of closed tournaments of Masters, Challengers, and Futures. Spectators can watch the games on a giant LCD video wall right in the main playing hall, and the festival events along with the progress of the tournaments themselves are going to be streamed live.live-streamed online.
The main commentators of the 4th year of the Prague International Chess Festival are going to be the German International Master Elisabeth Paehtz and the English International Master Lawrence Trent. Guests of the festival as well as the players participating in the closed tournaments will be joining the official livestream.
The online world shall stream the Prague festival via other chess channels too. The International Master and commentator Sagar Shah plans to livestream the tournament daily on his website Chessbase India, where he is naturally going to focus on the Indian stars such as Vidit, Harikrishna, and Sasikiran.
The Czech fans can get their share too. Thanks to the collaboration with the Czech Republic Chess Federation, the organizers have been able to arrange for the event to be livestreamed in Czech as well. Those who are interested and in situ can visit the commentators’ lounge in the Don Giovanni Hotel Prague, and the fans who cannot make it there can of course watch the livestream from their homes.
