22-year old Ednasia Junior made Angolan history after she became the first Angolan woman to win a medal in chess at the African Games.
Junior emerged as the silver medal winner in the women’s rapid event managing four victories, one draw and one defeat against the eventual gold medal winner WGM Shahenda Wafa. After the end of the final round both Junior and WIM Lina Nassr 4, 5 points but the Angolan emerged as the silver medal winner after a Buchholz was applied.
Since chess made its debut at the African Games in 2003 no Angolan woman has ever won a medal in chess at the games.
