WCM Natalie Banda once again showcased her mastery by clinching victory in the 2024 Botswana Metropolitan National Chess Championship. This achievement marked Banda’s second victory in the national championships, having previously secured the championship title in 2023.
Natalie Banda successfully defended her title as 2024 Botswana Metropolitan National Chess Ladies Champion on Sunday, 21 April 2024.
She defeated WCM Amolemo Mosweu in game 9 to achieve seven points needed to defend her championship title.
Despite suffering a defeat to WFM Naledi Murape in round two of the championships, Banda drew upon all her reserves in an effort to prove that she could defend her championship title.
Seven victories, two draws, and one defeat saw the defending her championship title for the second time in a row.
Murape proved herself to be a tenacious, precise, and at times ferocious competitor claiming the silver medal without registering a defeat. The Women FIDE Master scored 6,5 points with four victories and six draws.
WCM Refilwe Gabatshwarwe settled for the bronze medal with six points whilst another titled player, WCM Amolemo Mosweu, finished the championship on 4th position.
