Dear ACC Member Federation,
We are pleased to announce that the African Chess Confederation has partnered with Minerva Schools at KGI, a global university program that empowers students with the skills and experience to become leaders, innovators, and true global citizens who make meaningful contributions to our modern world. ACC and Minerva share a commitment to identifying and training talented, driven students, and are excited to work toward this objective in two ways. First, ACC will collaborate with Minerva to design and implement a “Chess – in – Schools”program across Africa. Second, we are inviting Federation representatives like you to nominate your top three students, currently in grade 12 (or equivalent) or who have graduated from secondary school in the past two years, to Minerva. Nominees should be in the top 10% of their class, and participate in in school and/or community activities that demonstrate intellectual curiosity,
initiative, leadership, and humility.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, December 23, 2016. Minerva will then reach out to nominees to share more about the Minerva experience. Nominees must also complete the application process by January 17, 2017 to be considered for admission. I hope you will take joy in sharing this unprecedente d educational opportunity with ACC scholars by nominating students for an undergraduate program that combines:
● Global understanding: Minerva students do not merely study diverse cultures, they experience them first hand, living in up to seven of the world’s most important cities — including San Francisco, Berlin, and Buenos Aires — during their four years of study.
● Pragmatic liberal arts: Minerva’s curriculum emphasizes practical knowledge, and every class is a small seminar centered on intensive discussion and debate. Minerva students develop critical and creative thinking skills through active learning, not fact or concept memorization.
● Accessibility: Tuition is less than a quarter of that at other top-tier institutions, but Minerva goes further, offering scholarships and need-based financial aid to ensure that
all admitted students can attend.
