Githinji Hinga wins 9th BYOB

Githinji Hinga replicated last week’s form by winning the 9th edition of the BYOB held at Galleria Shopping Mall yesterday night with 8 points out of a possible 9. His only loss came in the second round against the unpredictable Gabriel Njuki and thereafter strung together a win of games, leaving wounded national team players and Olympians Madelta Glenda, Ben Nguku, and Ricky Sang in his wake.
The renowned ladies’ national team coach Moses Andiwoh was in imperious form and finished in the second position with 7.5 points. The little-known Stanley Omondi ascended the podium in third place with 7 points. Githinji yet again took away gift vouchers worth KES 4,000 for his efforts, and Andiwoh and Stanley pocketed vouchers worth KES 3,000 and KES 2,000, respectively.
The 2021 World Amateur Chess Champion (Ladies U1700) Madelta Glenda scooped a voucher worth KES 2,000 after emerging as the top lady with 5 points. As usual, DJ Trancic did not disappoint with the music that reverberated in sync with checkmate moves, to the horror of the losers but the unbridled delight of the winners!
Terrian Chess Africa organized the event in partnership with Prox Chess House. The 10th Edition will take place on 17th December 2021 and will be limited to 60 participants on a first-come-first-served basis upon registration!
