The Japan Chess Championship 2022 was held from April 30 to May 4 in Tokyo with participation of 63 players and a total prize fund of 100.000 yen.
FM Mirai Aoshima became the sole Winner of the event after a dramatic finish with score of 7.5/9 points. Three top seeds entered the last round with chances for the first place as Shinya Kojima and Mirai Aoshima both scored 6.5/8 points and Thanh Tu Tran was behind with 6/8.
Tran was convincing in a direct encounter against Kojima to leap on the second position, while Aoshima defeated Tomohiko Matsuo to clinch the title of National Champion. As the top two players of the Japan Chess Championship 2022, Thanh Tu Tran and Mirai Aoshima earned their spots for the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad 2022.
