Magnus Carlsen won the Julius Baer Generation Cup today after he convincingly defeated his younger opponent Arjun Erigaisi in the two-day final match.
Being asked if the whole “Carlsen – Niemann controversy” motivated him more to play good, Magnus said: “I cannot say that 100%, but I haven’t felt less motivated“. He added that he will publish the statement on the whole case very soon and that will not be the only what we can hear from him on the topic: “I will say a little bit more (on the case) whether it’ll be tomorrow or one of the days after. I generally want cheating in chess to be dealt with seriously.
