A star-studded lineup comprising world number one Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura and more are set to compete in the Casablanca FIDE 100 premier tournament, celebrating a century of the International Chess Federation.
Casablanca has been chosen as Africa’s host for the FIDE 100 festival, commemorating a century of the International Chess Federation bringing together chess enthusiasts from across the globe.
Dubbed as the ‘Casablanca FIDE 100’ the premier tournament will feature four legendary champions representing their continents. The festival is part of Morocco Chess Week running from the 17th -the 19th of May 2024.
The “Casablanca FIDE 100” celebrations will be an opportunity for Morocco to host the Torch ceremony which is traveling around the globe all year round.
Many personalities, including a large FIDE delegation and several international and national grand masters are expected to attend the festival.
Leading the star-studded lineup of the legendary champions will be world number one Magnus Carlsen (Norway). He will be joined by Viswanathan Anand from India and Egypt’s Grandmaster Bassem Amin. Completing the impressive lineup will be world number for Hikaru Nakamura (USA).
The festival will also be an opportunity for the host nation to launch the “Casablanca Variant” a novelty and a 100% Moroccan contribution designed to celebrate the history of the game of Chess.
