The President of the African Chess Confederation Tshepiso Lopang won the “Administrator of the Year” award at the inaugural Botswana Women in Sports Awards in Gaborone on Saturday 25 March 2023.
The prolific chess player cum sports administrator made history by becoming the first female to be elected as the President of the African Chess Confederation.
Lopang who won P10, 000, was nominated for the award with tennis administrator Tapiwa Marobela and Mmaneke Kelebogile Maplanka of netball.
The Chief Executive Officer of Inside BW Women’s Magazine, Kesego Okie, highlighted that performance was judged from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, adding that the selection of winners was done by a panel of judges from various sectors.
Okie believes that it is essential to recognise and reward the hard work and dedication of female athletes, coaches, administrators and everyone else having a significant contribution and impact on the development and growth of women in sports.
She further commended sponsors who heeded the call for their generous support alluding this would go a long way in increasing the much-needed visibility of women’s sport.
