- Bassem Amin who won his first African Individual Chess Championship title in 2009 secured his 7th championship title at the 18th edition of Africa’s most prestigious chess competition on Tuesday 19 March 2024 at Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

Bassem’s victory over Angola’s David Silva in round eight saw him earning his 7th African Individual Chess Championship title with a round to spare with 7,5 points out of a possible nine.
Heading into the final round of the championship Bassem faced it off with IM Andrew Kayonde of Zambia. Despite Kayonde proving to be a hard nut to crack, Bassem emerged victorious.
Living up to the expectations as the championship favourite, Bassem won against Adeyinka Samuel Adewole (Nigeria), IM Amorim Agnelo (Angola), FM Harold Wanyama (Uganda), IM Fy Antenaina Rakotomaharo (Madagascar), GM Bilel Bellahcene (Algeria), FM Jemusse Zhemba (Zimbabwe), IM David Silva (Angola), Kayonde (Zambia) and managed one draw against Chitumbo.
