In a historic achievement, Robert Mcligeyo becomes Kenya’s youngest National Chess Champion, inspiring a new wave of young chess players.

Robert Mcligeyo’s chess prowess paid off as he secured the championship title at the 2024 Kenya National Chess Championship on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

The KCB Chess Club star attained a winning performance in the open section, earning eight points and edging out clubmate Jackson Ndegwa, who secured 7,5 points.

The former national junior champion demonstrated exceptional prowess and resilience, securing the title without a single loss, and outperforming a formidable lineup that featured Shem Qberi, Hadem Nyamiaka, Felx Boera, Brian Kadenge, CM Aguda Lwanga, and Jospeh Methu, while also earning draws with Hillary Sagwa and Allan Chumba.

Robert’s was awarded a brand new Nissan Note car worth Sh1.8 million.

Seven players were tied at seven points, and Lenny Shile of Lighthouse Chess Club had to settle for the bronze medal. Whilst defending champion Joseph Methu concluded the championship with 6,5 points.
