The 35th African Junior Chess Championship wrapped up on Saturday, 23rd November 2024, at Hassan Moustafa Sports in Egypt, marking the culmination of a thrilling week-long competition that showcased the brightest young chess talents on the continent.
The closing ceremony was attended by an impressive lineup of dignitaries, including African Chess Confederation President Tshepiso Lopang, officials from Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, veteran sports journalist, and representatives from Rosatom, the official platinum sponsor of the 2024 African Junior Chess Championship.
Zone 4.1 dominated the podium with host nation and Algerian chess players securing a combined five out of the six medals available.
Egyptian chess players garnered a total of four medals, comprising one gold, two silver, and one bronze, while Algeria and Angola secured a medal each.
During the closing ceremony of the championship, the interim President of the Egyptian Chess Federation, Ahmed Adly, expressed gratitude to the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sport, Dr. Ashraf Ashraf Sobhy, official sponsors Rosatom, African Chess Confederation, technical officials, and volunteers for making the championship a success.
