FM Abdulrahman Akintoye successfully defended his title at the 2025 Zone 4.2 West Africa Chess Championship. The tournament was held at Citiheight Luxury Hotel Ikeja, Lagos in Nigeria from 1st-8th April 2025.
Thirty players from eight countries within Zone 4.2 participated in the open section.As the defending champion, Abdulrahman was seeded second behind Amarelle Ortega leading up to the tournament.

Abdulrahman produced an outstanding display, winning six games and drawing three to gather 7 ½ points, retaining the Zone 4.2 West Africa Chess Championship title. His notable draws were against top-seeded Amarelle Ortega, third-seeded Denyefa Eyetonghan, and seventh-seeded Tersee Nyuima.

Tennyson Olisa, the tenth seeded player, secured the silver medal with an impressive 7 points as Nigerians dominated the podium. The 22-year-old won six games and lost twice to Abdulrahman and Odion Aikhoje. His major victory was against top seeded player Amarelle Ortega in round seven.

Amarelle Ortega, the 2023 Zone 4.2 champion and top seed, secured a bronze medal with 6½ points, achieving five victories, three draws against Toluwanimi Okemakinde, Abdulrahman Akintoye, and Denyefa Eyetonghan, and one loss to silver medalist Tennyson Olisa.
