The Acheampong siblings, Dave and Jeddy, showcased their chess prowess, earning top honors with gold medals in their respective sections at the 2024 African Individual Schools Chess Championship.

In an inspiring display of talent and teamwork, Dave and Jeddy Acheampong have become the latest siblings to shine at the African Chess Confederation tournaments, securing medals at the 2024 African Individual Schools Chess Championship in Accra, Ghana.

Dave Acheampong rose to the challenge, winning the gold medal in the Under-13 section with an impressive 8½ points, while his younger brother Jeddy also achieved a remarkable gold in the Under-11 section.

This marked yet another triumphant moment for the siblings on the podium, as Dave and Jeddy had previously secured gold and silver in the same Championship in Nairobi, Kenya in 2021.

In an interview with the African Chess Confederation media team, the siblings shared that their rigorous preparations for the AISCC included working on tasks assigned by their coach and playing online games.

“Our AISCC 2024 preparations were integrated into our daily routine, striking a balance between academic responsibilities and chess development. We engaged in focused practice sessions after school, addressed tasks assigned by our coach, and participated in online games.”

Dave’s third continental gold medal was a testament to his dedication, and the chess prodigy is confident that this accomplishment will propel him to continue honing his craft while inspiring others to pursue excellence in chess.

“I am overjoyed to have won my third continental gold medal. And I am satisfied that my diligence, persistence, and passion have generated the desired results. This victory has motivated me to continue refining my game and inspire the next generation of players.”

The senior brother also served as a valuable mentor to his sibling Jeddy throughout the tournament, providing guidance on refining his opening strategies and sharing techniques for maintaining composure during matches.

The siblings are resolute in their pursuit of excellence, striving for even greater accomplishments in 2025, with their current focus on proudly representing Ghana on the global stage.

Mr Dave Acheampong, the father of the accomplished chess players, expressed immense pride in his son’s achievements and appreciation for ACC’S decision to revive the tournament. However, he highlighted the ongoing challenges in secuting sponsorship or funding to support their journey as chess players in Ghana. Having already qualified for the World Championship, scheduled for this March, in Serbia, the boys are focused on their preparations while navigating the financial demands of high level competition
